Illegal Logging and the Productivity Trap of Timber Production in Mexico

This paper uses two approaches to estimate illegal volumes and provides arguments show that timber production in Mexico is largely defined by the presence of significant logging, which supply market with a volume equivalent legal harvest. Estimated are closely linked growth rate construction manufacturing sectors, suggests these sectors trigger demand for volumes, while lower kept making rustic furniture wooden handicrafts. Illegal logging reinforces productivity trap through several mechanisms throughout value chain, from sawn wood retailing. These mechanisms, conjunction certain features domestic market, contribute keeping forest sector trap. complex socio-environmental problem, requires participation society as whole reverse effects this activity every component chain.
